Dear Kate, Open this blog post back up on May 25th, 2011.
By the time you will be reading this you will have forgotten mem day 2010 and 2009, 2008, 2007 (you get the hint). You will have convinced yourself that it will be ok to stay in town and go to the pool and not do the lake since j is playing in the golf tourney again.
DO NOT listen to the voices. Get in your car. pack the kids and go to the lake. this may seem like a lot. do not be scared. It will be better for everyone involved. pinkie swear.
You see kids, i've gotten myself in a little pickle.Every mem day for as far as i can remember i have gone to the lake. its what we do. it is the official kick off of the summer. you get the brooms and take down the spider webs (ok, you watch someone do that). you rev the engine on the boat. you watch my dad clean the outside of the boat for hours with lake water (totally ironic and weird, i know. but he does it.) you stock the freezer with mini snickers and you thank god that the dock is in a very quit cove so no one can see the gray skin you have kept hidden all winter.
now, when jason and i started dating in '01. I would go to the lake then he would come meet me on sunday. that went on till we had liza and that started what we now know as the mem day pickle.i somehow end up at the pool every year by myself with no help (and the 9999 new club members) while jason is playing golf (can someone on the golf course help me understand why one round takes 8 hours) and at this point i realize i need the help of the national guard to corral my munchkins and poopy diapers and wet clothes and fits and all that comes with opening day of the pool. and then if that same national guard can just take a beebee gun (or 5) and shoot my hubby (whom i love and adore) in the bottom with it that would be great. see, i don't want to really hurt him or ruin his day but a little sting in the behind would make me feel oh so good.
so this year with my track-star-record-setting-sprinter of a 1yr old and my dramatic-fit throwing-snackbar loving-deependgoing- 3yr old (both who can't swim) there i was. there were also 99999 people at the club with no chairs or anything so that was fun too. :) *one more note--see if there is a surgeon who can sew your bathing suit into your skin so there are no opportunities for cranky kids to pull it down*
have i forgotten to mention my last ditch effort to get ready for pool season? well i had the bright idea of going to the tanning bed on friday so i could start the weekend off a little better and walked out with 3rd degree burns everywhere except for the insides of my armpits. this slowed my usual record reaction time that was needed in times like this.
so anywho..
i did get jason for an hour sunday morning but the pool was closed so we jumped the fence and got everyone in the pool. i even got cocky and sat down. yes i did. only for the lifeguards to come in and kick us out so they could put chemicals in.
well i wasn't going to let all this ruin my weekend. nope. not me. so i took the kids to the park. oooonllly to have a bird poop all down my back.
well so today the golf tourney is over. a smile back on my face..a laid back pool day with a margarita and a husband and a kid for each parent. and a plan for the future. god bless america.
ps. liza and mccoy were VERY excited to see poppee this weekend! they missed you meme!
