Gearing up for vandergriff!!!!!

sat morning we headed to vandergriff playground to have Popsicles with the kindergartners!
it has been interesting to watch liza react to big changes this week. this whole year we have been counting down the days until vandergriff. she has been nothing but confident and excited. it started to slow down on tuesday night when i got her class list and read off all the names and she looked at me and said, mom......i don't know one person on that list! liza has never had a hard time making friends. she is sweet to everyone she meets. she is not shy about walking into a room so i have not been worried for her in that situation one bit. but at this point she started getting quite and not wanting to talk about it as much. wed morning we took mccoy to new school and i could see her wheels turning again and could tell she was sad she wasn't at new school. i squeezed her had as we were walking out that day and said...i can't believe how big you are! soooo excited you get to go to vandergriff and her reply was...mom, i don't want to talk about it anymore!!!! i said, oh liza are you feeling sad about new school and she said, i'm fine! i'm just the same (she was not bigger than she was a few weeks ago ;) ) and i want you to quit talking about it.
wed night we went to the orientation /meet the teacher night. it was crazy! a million people...she was meeting a million people, jason was stopping to talk to a million people. her room was crowded with people. we were trying to find the gym and library and i could tell.....she had it. she started acting out and pulling us away from people as we talked ect...she didn't want to meet another person...she didn't want us talking to anymore people. she was ready to go home and get out of that place.
we laid in bed that night and talked and i said..were you kind of freaking out tonight? and she said yes...there were so many people! and i tried telling her that there would be less people in her class then at new school (which i'm not sure if i was right) i told her 12 oops (wrong #) anyways...she said mom that is still a lot....what if i asked to eat 12 cookies...would you say that is a lot? i said ...well good point! so needless to say..it was overwhelming for her.
at the Popsicle party she still wasn't feeling it...she would play with crawford for a lil bit then want to go chase grasshoppers (which her and about 5 of her friends used to do nonstop at school) i could tell she missed her buddies. she was ready to go by the time it was over.

i get asked a lot how i am feeling about liza going to kindergarten...am i sad?
i truly can not say that i have felt sad one time. there is something about liza that we are ALWAYS excited about her next step. she is always excited. we don't really long for yesterday we are always enjoying today and counting down the seconds till some event right around the corner. maybe we just feed off of her energy... but in seeing her react to things this week and seeing her not complete;ly acting like herself i guess my emotions have changed to feeling a little anxious for her to get comfortable quickly so she can start acting like her little happy, outgoing self again. i am completely confident it will happen quickly. i would not want her to think i was NERVOUS one bit. i want to be as excited and happy about this so she can mirror those emotions and not feed off of anything else. i guess as a parent i am running a check list in my head of making sure that i am giving her the skills, the examples, the opportunities to get to know all these new people, have i given the teacher enough information about her, do i even need to? i think we are good....we are EXCITED for this week. we are EXCITED for all these new friends and people that will be a part of our lives. we are thankful we are in such a loving school community that will take extra special care of this funny girl. we can't wait.

sat night we invited all the kindergarten fams we knew over for a get together at our house.
at first i was kind of thinking...i feel like we have had a kindergarten event everyday this week but i was sooo glad we did this. i think there are 4 K classes so not all of these kids will be together but i think it was good to get them all familiar with seeing each other! (they will be on the playground together everyday) i could tell it helped liza. they had a ball. i think there were about 15 fams that came over with a few from liza's class.
i meant to get a big group photo but i didn't take any pics!
