Liza was SO excited to come home and tell me that her school was having a science fair. i got yelled at for not signing up for the talent show so there was no way she was going to let the science fair come and go without her being a part of it. she new exactly what she wanted to do: a volcano. she had very exact ideas about how she wanted it to go. she wanted to talk about each detail.
she LOVEd decorating it and doing the actual project. mccoy wanted to do one of his own so so bad too.
then it came to the science board. i wanted her to be in charge of this whole thing so i made her write out all the stuff. this made her really annoyed! ;) there are probably a few tear drops from her on the board from me making her do this. ;) i just really wanted it to be a learning project for her and thought this would be good practice for her writing. trust me--it would have been a WHOLE lot easier for me to type it out! haha! she wanted to title it "Volcano Party"
she was really really proud of the finished project...i was proud of her for doing everything from beginning to end.
i never told her this thing was a competition. i knew she would get too focused on it and that is all she would talk about would be "winning". i thought i could talk her through it at the event if she noticed anything..but she came home from school that day telling me all about how people were going to WIN tonight at the science fair. i could tell she wanted to win so bad and i had to start downplaying.
she was SO excited to get there and look at her project. there were 90000 people there which made it very chaotic so you could barely walk and this makes liza act a little crazy and i could tell there was a meltdown looming.
when we got there one of her friends had won a medal and the one next to hers had won (they did k-1st) and she saw certificates and hers didn't have anything so she started to cry a little. she was so embarrassed that she was crying and looked up and told me her eyes were just watering. ;( . finally her certificate came so she was drying up her tears!!!!! there were coupons on there that she was THRILLED about! haha. we got in the car and headed to get ice cream.
my dad likes to call these "teaching moments" :)
we talked her though how proud we were and that she was one of the only ones who wrote hers out and how much that meant. she told us that she "just really thought she would come home with a medal. but next year she was just going to have to work harder and wanted to do something cooler like electricity from fruit or something" hahaha. i was so proud of her for getting motivated to do it again next year and coming up with that conclusion on her own!!!! :)
i love to revisit things ;) so we were chit chatting about it all when i was putting her to bed that night and she told me, "mom, you know you are not the star of the show." i said....ok yes i know this but why are you telling me this? ;) and she said..well you were trying to be the star about making me write everything out and i told you i didn't have to and that means it wasn't your show and you aren't the star so next time when i tell you something like that you need to listen." hahaha.
she tried to turn my teaching moment on me but not so fast sister!!!!! ;) haha.
proud of my lil girl and everything she is learning in this big world! whether it be chemical reactions or being motivated by the wins and the losses. ;)
can you tell she is freaking in this pic??? ;)

You tell that sweet girl that D's mean Momma made him write out every single word on his board, too!!! Some lessons are just worth learning...even if there were only 2 of them in the entire Science Fair that did it!! I think we should get a medal :)
